Multimedia, Knowledge and Web Technologies Research Area

Research infrastructure:

Research and development is conducted in and supported by a well-equipped laboratory infrastructure including (among others):

  • a number of Windows and Linux based PCs, some of which are equipped with high tech NVIDIA graphics cards to support advanced graphics and video rendering;
  • a Grid computing network composed of five SUN workstations, in which Globus Toolkit 4 is installed;
  • web cameras, microphones and headsets;
  • Ethernet connections for the lab’s access to the public internet;
  • connection to a WiFi antenna to establish a broadband wireless link with NCSR “Demokritos”, initially setup for the educational broadcasting needs of the BASE2 project.

A variety of software tools and IDEs are installed to the lab’s computing infrastructure such as (among others):

  • Java/Java EE/J2ME development environments such as Eclipse and respective SDKs;
  • Open source game engines and 3D libraries (OgreSDK, Direct3D);
  • Multimedia editing tools;
  • C/C++ and Web development IDEs such as Microsoft .NET;
  • XML development tools and parsers such as xerces;
  • Other Web and database development tools such as mySQL, Apache Tomcat;
  • Open source learning management systems such as OLAT, and AIT’s e-learning platform (OWL-i);
  • Audio processing tools such as audacity and HTK;
  • Multimedia annotation tools, such as Caliph and Emir or the MPEG-7 XM software;
  • Machine learning and data mining tools and libraries, such as WEKA and libSVM.

AIT's 1st Gaming Forum a Success!

AIT's 1st Gaming Forum was a two day celebration of Gaming that brought together the Greek gaming industry with academics and gaming enthusiasts of all ages. The Gaming Forum was  co-organized with the British Council and Cowboy Tv and realized thanks to the support of Grand Sponsor hellas online, Gold Sponsor intralot, Sponsor the EU project KnowInG and Grand Communication Sponsor MTV.
