“Major distinction for AIT’s researcher Dr. Ioannis Tomkos”

12 April 2017

“Dr. Ioannis Tomkos has been included in the "Top H-Index" list of scientists who work in the general research fields of "Computer Science and Electronics" (http://www.guide2research.com/scientists/GR).
The list is maintained by the "Guide2Research" and only includes scientists having an H-Index (defined according to what is explained at this Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-index) that is >=40.

The H-Index is calculated based on the set of the scientist's most cited papers and the number of citations that they have received in other publications (obtained via “Google Scholar”; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Scholar) and essentially reflects the recognition that the published work of a scientist has by its peers working on similar topics.

It is noteworthy that the H-Index does not consider the time period at which those citations were accumulated (i.e. the older a scientist is, then typically he/she can achieve higher H-Index values due to the fact that his/her published work can collect more citations). According to "Guide2Research", the list includes only 11 scientists based in Greece. Dr. Ioannis Tomkos ranks in the 11th position in Greece and in the 1621st position globally. Notably, the vast majority of scientists that have higher positions in this ranking are older and therefore able to accumulate more citations over a larger time interval. Dr. Tomkos’ Google Scholar profile can be seen at: https://scholar.google.gr/citations?user=hVzaMhEAAAAJ&hl=el

"The professionalism and friendliness of the professors, the classrooms, the labs, the courses, everything about the AIT staff and campus just led me to one conclusion: that I was in the right place. At AIT, where I spent most of my stay in Greece, I was pleased by the faculty, staff and students. I felt like home, living among my family and friends. The support, the understanding, the encouragement of the faculty and fellow friends were overwhelming and kept me going, working hard days and night until graduation date."
