AIT is working on enhancing the performance of future datacenters

28 March 2016

fibreDr. Ioannis Tomkos of AIT published an article at the Spring issue of the Fibre Systems Magazine. The article entitled "Supersizing the data centre" is actually the cover page story.

The article discusses the evolving needs of large-scale Data Centers (DC) in terms of size, processing speed and energy efficiency. It highlights the fact that conventional CMOS-based electronic interconnects and Ethernet switches can no longer keep up with the relevant future DC requirements. In that respect it introduces optical transceivers and switches as key DC interconnect technologies which can effectively meet the future DC specifications.

The digital version of the issue where the specific article is included (pages 22-25) is available at: http://fibresystems.msgfocus.com/q/1mB27VzvuPzUZulvhCPU/wv

Fibre Systems is a trusted information source with wide global circulation for the optical communications industry, aimed at component and subsystem vendors; network equipment manufacturers; planners, installers, and systems integrators; as well as operators and end users of fibre-optic networks worldwide.

"Away from AIT, life in Greece is a combination of the East and the West. The beautiful seaside, the wide variety of islands, the northern forests, the ancient monuments, the Greek food, the Greek culture, the warm hearted Greeks and the nice weather around the year all form an enjoyable experience of Greece. All of that made me feel as though I was on a long vacation, side by side to my studies at AIT."
