The 3rd ACM International Conference on Digital Interactive Media in Entertainment and Arts (DIMEA 2008)

that took place during 10-12 September 2008, at Athens Information Technology's premises, in Athens, Greece, has successfully finished with significant participation  from all over the world. 
A multi-disciplinary audience, similar to the nature of the DIMEA 2008 conference, was attracted and their interest kept alive throughout the duration of the conference, proven by the increased participation and active interaction of the audience in all conference sessions and events.
DIMEA 2008 was jointly organized by Athens Information Technology (AIT) Center of Excellence for Research and Graduate Education, the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI, Singapore Chapter), and the Society for Excellence and Innovation in Interactive Experience Design (InExDe).
 
DIMEA 2008 targeted to the presentation of societal, business and technological advances and research results in cross-disciplinary areas related with digital interactive media in entertainment, art and creative technologies, finally achieved through a rich and multi-perspective conference program.
 
Innovations, new research approaches and practices were presented in focused technical sessions, which offered a wide coverage of the DIMEA 2008 scientific and technological areas, as well as exhibited and demonstrated during the DIMEA 2008 Digital Art and Entertainment Exhibition, which hosted impressive innovative digital interactive rich-media works in art and entertainment and was collocated and ran in parallel with the DIMEA 2008 technical sessions.
The participants in the Exhibition, being game developers, multimedia designers, artists, academics and scientists, were multi-national coming from France, UK, US, Japan, Ireland, Finland and other. The exhibition was visited by numerous interested visitors during the DIMEA 2008 conference duration.

Participants had the unique opportunity to benefit from Keynote Talks given by internationally distinguished speakers, such as Prof. Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, Miralab, University of Geneva, Dr. Roberto Cencioni, Head of Unit INFSO.E2 Content and Knowledge, European Commission, Prof. Michael Meimaris, New Technologies Laboratory, University of Athens and Dr. Ioannis Mihalou(di)s, Visual Artist.

The program was further enriched by Tutorials, Special Sessions, a Technical Workshop and an Industrial exhibition, organized in parallel with the DIMEA 2008 technical sessions and its Exhibition, which offered further opportunities for a wider exposure and appreciation of the challenges presented by the convergence of Arts, Entertainment and Digital Interactive Media Technologies to its participants.
 
Thus, DIMEA 2008 brought together academics, technologists, artists, designers, and industry representatives from all over the world, who had the opportunity to meet, discuss and share opinions and practices.

It was the first time that a DIMEA conference was hosted by a European country, creating a unique opportunity for all participants to become “connected” and share knowledge and practices in European grounds, as it was proven.
An impressive outcome of the conference was that the participants represented a wide range of countries from all over the world: USA, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Korea, Portugal, Serbia, Norway, Holland, Malaysia, Fyrom, Japan, Italy, UK, Ireland, France, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Brazil, Belgium, Greece and other.
