Prof. John Soldatos, (born in Athens, Greece in 1973), obtained his Bachelor/MSc degree in 1996 and his Phd (dealing with Broadband networks traffic control and programmable networks & services) in 2000, both from the ECE Department of the National Technical University of Athens. Dr. Soldatos has had a very active role in a number of research projects, which were co-funded by the EU in the scope of the ACTS, ESPRIT and IST frameworks. Specifically from 1996 to 2002, he has actively participated in EXPERT AC-094, WATT AC-235, IMPACT AC-324, Chameleon EP 20597 CATCH-2004 IST-1999-11103, LION IST-19990-11387 projects, and CHIL-FP6-506909 projects. Since 01/01/2008 he serves as the Technical Director of the HERMES (FP7-216709) project (on pervasive computing for ageing well), and Technical Manager of the ASPIRE (FP7-215417) integrated project (on configurable RFID middleware). He is also participating in FP7 project my-e-Director 2012, as well as in the MEDUSA project (of the European Defense Agency) He has also had an active involvement in several (more than eight) projects of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. Dr. Soldatos has also considerable experience in several enterprise IT projects (including high-budget integrated projects), where he worked for leading Greek enterprises (INTRACOM S.A, IBM Hellas S.A, PEGASUS S.A, OTE S.A, TEMAGON S.A). Dr. Soldatos was engaged in these projects as senior developer, IT systems architect, team leader, technical project manager. Dr. Soldatos was (in 2000) the technical manager for the software development of the portal http://www.e-go.gr. Furthermore, he has been involved in several large scale industry projects (both public and private sector) as a principal IT consultant. Dr. Soldatos has extensively lectured in NTUA, AIT, while he has also given a host of invited lectures to other Greek and international universities. He has also conducted numerous corporate training courses (over 30 seminars) with topics relating to implementation and technical management of large scale IT projects (main topics being J2EE, Oracle, RUP/XP). As a result of his research activities he has co-authored more than 120 papers published in international journals (more than 30) and conference proceedings. Moreover, he has been involved in numerous pre-sales activities for both national and EU tenders. In the scope of these activities he has also attracted (as principal investigator) multi-million euro research grants for both NTUA (prior to 2003) and AIT (contributed to more than 3.6 M€ in the period 2003-2009). Dr. Soldatos is with Athens Information Technology since March 2003, where he is currently an Associate Professor. In Athens Information technology, he is instructor/responsible for courses in the scope of all three AIT academic programs, namely MSIN (in collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon University), MSITT and MBIT.
