SUMMARY 

Dr. Dimitrios Klonidis is Assistant Professor at Athens Information Technology centre, Greece.

He was awarded his PhD degree in the field of Optical communications and networking from the University of Essex, UK in 2006. In September 2005, he joined the high-speed Networks and Optical Communications (NOC) group in AIT as a faculty member and senior researcher.

Dr. Klonidis has several years of research and development experience, working in a large number of UK national (EPSRC funded) and European (FP6 and FP7) projects in the field of optical switching, networking and transmission.

He has more than 60 publications in international journals and refereed major conferences, including one paper award and participation in 4 post deadline papers. He is a member of IEEE and is serving as a rewier in several journals including JLT, PTL, Electronics Letters and OSA Optics Express.

His research activities cover the general area of optical communication and networking, including high capacity optical transmission and modulation techniques, dynamic and transparent optical networking, signal processing and optical switching architectures and technologies.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Significant technical experience in the field of optical networking and communications has been gained over the last 7 years through the participation in several European Union and National funded research projects in which served as main investigator/researcher, research team leader, as well as project preparation and proposal editor in many cases.

• Investigation of special all-optical labelling techniques for optical packets transmitted at high bit rates beyond 40Gb/s. (Techniques investigated: Sub-Carrier Modulation, Optical Code base Labelling, DPSK decoding schemes)
• Development, analysis and implementation of a special labelling scheme based on DPSK decoding
• Development of header extraction and electronic control for wavelength switching based on fast tunable laser.
• Experimental investigation of high speed all-optical processing schemes for wavelength conversion, clock extraction and signal regeneration.
• Implementation of the labelling scheme and control on an ultra fast wavelength conversion scheme (>40Gb/s) based on tunable laser controlled dual-pump FWM.
